jesse martin
Jesse Martin is a Bundjalung man from northern
New South Wales. He is of Aboriginal, Spanish and Dutch descent.
Performing traditional dance from a young age,
Jesse graduated from the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts
(ACPA), Queensland in 2010 with an Advanced Diploma in Dance.
He secured a 6 month secondment with Expressions
Dance Company, performing in works choreographed by Gina Rings and
Natalie Weir.
Recently Jesse competed in the Dance Around the
World solo competition hosted by the Australian Dance Festival,
which he subsequently won, earning him a trip to Los Angeles.
In 2011 Jesse joined Leigh Warren and Dancers
to perform in both Breathe choreographed by Frances Rings
for WOMADelaide and Dreamscape choreographed by Leigh Warren
for the OzAsia Festival. Jesse finished the year performing in First
Ritual with Expressions Dance Company and Beijing LDTX for the
Brisbane Festival.
2011 also saw Jesse performing his first choreographic
work in Expressions Dance Company's 'Festival of Solos,' performing
alongside seasoned dancers Lisa Griffiths, Kristina Chan, Daniel
Jaber and Larissa McGowan.
Jesse kicked off 2012 performing in I
Am Eora as part of Sydney Festival and looks forward to another
exciting year with Leigh Warren and Dancers.
