repertoire satyagraha
Satyagraha was presented by Leigh Warren & Dancers in collaboration with Adelaide Vocal Project and State Opera of South Australia. Inspired by the life of legendary Indian peacemaker Mahatma Gandhi and his life-long search for truth through non-violent means – a concept he named satyagraha, the opera is a mystical and magical journey. Sung in Sanskrit with text from the ancient Bhagavad-Gita episode of the Mahabharata, Music Director Timothy Sexton reorchestrated the score for four keyboard players, using seven synthesizers. Satyagraha was the last of the Philip Glass trilogy of portrait operas to be presented in Adelaide, it followed Akhnaten in 2004 and Einstein on the Beach Parts1&2 and 3&4 in 2006 and 2007 respectively. |
