The initial impulse for
Quick Brown Foxwas the well-known typing exercise of the
fox jumping over the lazy dog. The structured, methodical beginning
surges forth into a myriad of sparkling energy, forming and reforming.
This collaborative work spans the distance from Australia to Germany.
William Forsythe, Artistic
Director of Ballett Frankfurt, and Leigh Warren of Leigh Warren
& Dancers are both from rigorous classical backgrounds. Quick
Brown Fox draws together the extremes of their classical vocabulary
with the respective improvisational styles of the two companies.
"Out of infinite choices
of movement the challenge for the choreographer is to choose one."
(William Forsythe) As the atoms of our language, the alphabet is
constantly combined and scrambled to form words.
"Does anything we
say ever leave us?", Rodney Hall writes about the body as the
space/house for the voice. In Quick Brown Fox words are expressed
through the body and bounced off the surrounding surfaces. Computer
generated screen media extends the stage lighting to enhance the
illusion of boundless surfaces. Quick Brown Fox is the illusion
of reality and the deception of space…
