Zaimon began his contemporary dance career with
Random Dance Company and Attik Dance Company when he moved to the
United Kingdom in 1993. In 1994, whilst still in the U.K. he co-founded
and choreographed his first multi-media work for NARC Dance Theatre
called "Prying Eye", for Resolutions in London.
"Prying Eye" was later developed into a short dance
film funded by Yorkshire and Humberside Arts.
In 2002 he moved to Brisbane, Australia, after
being invited by Artistic Director, Maggi Sietsma, to dance for
Expressions Dance Company (EDC). He continued with the company until
2007, during which time his choreographic credits included "Nea
Hellas" - 2003 and "An Old Lady's Poem"
- 2006.
Since 2008, Zaimon has worked as an independent
artist performing for Lisa Wilsons' Elbow Room Collective, and as
an invited guest artist for EDC productions, while simultaneously
working on his own projects.
In 2009 Zaimon choreographed a new duet in collaboration
with his wife Liz Vilmanis called "Forgotten Interlude"
- a commissioned work by Sybella Blencowe, which premiered at the
Burnside Ballroom in Adelaide in July 2009.
In 2010 Zaimon established a collaborative relationship
with photographer and video artist Ryadan Jeavons, to pursue the
integration of video art and multimedia with live dance theatre.
Together they've worked on "The Fragile" commissioned
by EDC for their Launchpad Season, in addition to the first stage
development of "A Likely Distrust" as part of "Fresh
Ground" residency with the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary
Arts, also supported by Arts Queensland and involving dance artist
Liz Vilmanis. Following this residency the pair worked together
on another choreographic commission "The Writing on My Fathers
Hand" for the Queensland University of Technology's Essentially
Dance Season.
Zaimon has also been invited to choreograph
for Ausdance SA's, Fresh Bred Youth Dance Ensemble and for the final
year students at the Adelaide College of the Arts for their Graduation
Performance Season. He performs with Leigh Warren and Dancers for
the first time, in the Adelaide season of Maria De Buenos Aires,
a co production with the State Opera of South Australia.
