Amanda Phillips -Associate Curator
Amanda is a multi award-winning independent Director, Choreographer, Digital Media Artist, Film-maker, Educator and Creative Producer/Director across stage, screen and events. Hailed as a “Mastermind”, her groundbreaking work is described as “the new deal arts-wise at its mesmerising best”.
Her extensive body of Australian and intercultural work has been presented worldwide. In the past decade, she has created over 30 works across Dance, Theatre, Film, Installation, Public Art and Performance Art.
Amanda holds a Masters of Dance (Laban Centre, London) and has worked prolifically in London, Europe and Asia representing Australia at a high level. She is a Churchill Fellow and Centennial Medallist, and has received numerous accolades for her work including a Ruby Award for Innovation.
Her work has been commissioned by various bodies, including:- Arts SA; Australia Council for the Arts; Adelaide City Council; Tanzkommission, Zurich; Shanghai International Performing Arts Research Centre; World Dance Alliance/Cloud Gate 2; Taipei Artist Village.
Amanda works in partnership with composer, music producer and media artist Alexander Waite Mitchell in researching and realising hybrid projects through the application of 3D-stereo, immersive cinema, sensors, real-time systems and emergent technologies. Their work includes “Otanical” (2016) - a 360-degree interactive augmented virtual reality production.
Her recent interdisciplinary work spans both the performing and visual arts arenas. This delivers new frameworks of performance through the underpinning of art-technology that engages the ‘audience as performer’.
