evening dance classes FAQ
What to bring and
wear
Wear something that is non-restrictive and comfortable to move in.
For the feet, go bare foot or wear thin cotton socks.
To keep hydrated during class, bring a bottle of water.
What is the format
and style of the class?
Classes begin with a comprehensive warm-up and gradually build to
more involved dance sequences that focus on the body's alignment,
breath, use of weight and awareness of space and time. Contemporary
dance has elements of jazz, ballet and modern dance styles. The
classes follow the style taught to the company's own professional
dancers.
Do the classes run
in terms?
No. Classes are also held through the school holidays and are designed
so that you can join at any time. Bring a friend, its great fun!
Do classes run all
year?
Classes run for most of the year, however from time to time the
dancers who teach class are in performance or on tour and classes
are put on hold for a few weeks.
If you haven't attended for a few weeks it is best to ring or email
to check that classes are on.
What level should
I choose?
Beginners' Contemporary is designed for those with little or no
dance experience.
Intermediate is for those with some experience in contemporary dance
and who have reasonable knowledge and skill.
If unsure why not try a class and discuss the appropriate level
with the teacher.
Is there an age limit?
There is no upper age limit. Classes are designed to suit adults
and there is a minimum age of around 17.
How to pay
The teacher will collect payment before class. Cash and cheques
can be paid to the teacher, but credit card payments need to be
paid at the office (upstairs from the studio), either in person
before 6pm Monday to Thursday, or by phone.
Will I be issued
with a certificate?
No, these classes are designed for fun and fitness rather than a
formal qualification.
